Training as a Counsellor

Counselling training - There are three distinct parts in our Training & Counselling programme.

1.Consulting
2.Coaching
3.Training & Development
In first part we assess candidate’s potential and develop career goals, understand them very well and take a proper step towards positive change.

Second one is Coaching, a working relationship where the coach uses specific techniques to guide the client in making career and life choices that are meaningful and purposeful.

Our Counselling training programs are developed for various levels of management, from supervisory preparation to innovative leadership techniques for the candidate.

Training as a Counsellor, you would provide people with time, attention and a safe, confidential environment to help them explore their feelings. This could be for many reasons, including relationship difficulties, bereavement, or wanting to improve the way they deal with everyday life. You would not give advice, but would encourage your clients to look at their options and find their own solutions for positive change.

You would normally use one particular theoretical approach to counselling, such as person-centred, humanistic or psychodynamic. You might work with clients with a wide range of issues, or specialise in an area such as eating disorders or addiction.

In most areas of Counselling training, your work would involve:

  • building a relationship of trust and respect with clients
  • agreeing a 'counselling contract' to establish what will be covered in sessions
  • encouraging clients to talk about the feelings that have made them seek counselling
  • listening carefully, asking questions and clarifying your understanding of the client’s situation
  • empathising with the client’s issues, but challenging them when necessary
  • helping clients to see things more clearly or from different perspectives
  • referring clients to other sources of help if appropriate
  • attending regular supervision and counselling sessions
  • keeping confidential records.

Most counselling is one-to-one and face-to-face, but you could also work with couples, families or groups, or counsel people over the phone or internet.
